2A1 Meningioma, suprasellar (Case 2) 1
Case 2 History ---- The patient was a 67 year old man who carried a clinical diagnosis of probable multisystem atrophy and history of stroke with transient left hemiparesis. On Initial presentation, the patient noted initially resting tremor on his right thumb at age 57 and relatives commented on decreased facial expression. He started taking Sinemet and Deprenyl since the onset of a 3Hz resting tremor but without any benefit. The clinical impression was striatonigral degeneration or idiopathic Parkinson disease. The patient died after prolonged hospitalization from other medical conditions. ---- At autopsy the weight of the unfixed brain was 1260g. Detailed workup was consistent with Neurodegeneration with Brain Iron accumulation, type 1 (formerly Hallervorden-Spatz Disease). ---- 2A1,2 There was a 1.5 X 1.5 X 1 cm firm, dura-based meningioma on the left side of the sella turcica. The arteries at the base of the brain were normally distributed with minimal atherosclerosis.
