Washington University Experience | NEOPLASMS (MENINGIOMA) | Gross Pathology | 6A1 Meningioma (Case 6) 1
Case 6 History ---- This hypertensive patient developed a dissecting aortic arch aneurysm resulting in a hemorrhagic infarct of thalamus and intraventricular hemorrhage. Multiple sterile non-caseating granulomas were present in the lungs, hilar lymph nodes, liver and spleen consistent with neurosarcoid. ---- 6A1,2 A 4 x 3 x 3 cm meningioma of the right sphenoid wing was an unexpected finding. The right optic and oculomotor nerves passing through this tumor were shrunken and atrophic. There was astrocytosis and neuron loss involving the cortex and white matter in the cortical tumor bed but no direct brain invasion by tumor cells.
