Washington University Experience | NEOPLASMS (MENINGIOMA) | Gross Pathology | 71A3 Meningioma, Anaplastic (Case 71) dural tail
71A3 There is a prominent dural tail. ---- Not shown: Histological sections of the right parietal tumor showed tumor cells with inconspicuous or prominent nucleoli, increased nuclear-to-cytoplasmic ratio ('small cell' formation), spontaneous macronecrosis with angiocentric sparing and micronecrosis with tumor cell pseudopalisading, and brain invasion, evident focally. Mitotic figures are abundant, ranging up to 24/10HPF. This histological pattern is consistent with anaplastic meningioma, WHO grade III.
