Washington University Experience | NEOPLASMS (MENINGIOMA) | Mucinous | 1F Meningioma, mucinous (Case 1) Ulex 1.jpg
Tumor cells fail to label with Ulex. ---- Ancillary studies (not shown): Tumor cells do not stain for CD34, Ulex, factor VIII, factor XIIIa, and S-100. MIB-1 immunostain shows a high background and was noncontributory. ---- Comment: We considered several entities in 2000 for this distinctive and unusual neoplasm and settled on mucinous meningioma (Berho & Suster, PMID: 8279622) Our differential diagnosis included chordoid meningioma and meningioma with mucinous features, admittedly a very rare entity. Although some areas of the tumor resemble chordomatous regions of chordoid meningioma, expected chains of chordoma cells are not seen, being replaced instead by fibrillary cells admixed in a bubbly myxoid matrix.
