Washington University Experience | NEOPLASMS (MENINGIOMA) | Rhabdoid | 27B1 (Case 27) H&E C10 40X 2
Foci of sheeting architecture, hypercellularity, and macronucleoli qualify the tumor as atypical meningioma. Some of the tumor cells have foamy to vacuolated cytoplasm with small round normochromatic nuclei (xanthomatous change). There is a moderate degree of pleomorphism in the tumor cells. However, mitoses are uncommon and necrosis is not evident. Patchy areas of hypercellularity are seen and in these areas the tumor cells have prominent nucleoli and look less obviously meningothelial. The overall morphological features are interpreted as atypical meningioma with focal rhabdoid features (WHO grade 2).
