11C Meningioma, secretory (Case 11) CEA 2.jpg
These secretions and surrounding cells are immunoreactive for carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA-polyclonal). Many of the tumor cells have intranuclear 'holes'. Mitotic figures are rare; furthermore no other atypical features are present, including small cell change, hypercellularity, spontaneous necrosis, nucleoli, or a patternless growth pattern. ---- Comment: The morphological findings are consistent with a secretory meningioma (WHO grade 1). This particular subtype tends to elicit prominent peritumoral brain edema and in a subset may also be associated with elevated serum levels of CEA.
