Case 14 History ---- The patient was a 54 year old man presenting with proptosis and blurred vision in the left eye. Imaging showed a left sphenoid wing lesion with extension into the left orbit. Operative procedure: Craniotomy for tumor excision and left orbitotomy with excision of mass and reconstruction of orbit of left eye. ---- 14A1-3 Hematoxylin and eosin stained sections of this meningothelial neoplasm shows it is solid with lobules, nests, and whorls. There are abundant, round extracellular lumina containing eosinophilic proteinaceous secretions. The tumor cells are syncytial with abundant eosinophilic cytoplasm. The tumor nuclei are round to oval, have finely stippled chromatin, and a subset contain pseudoinclusions or clearing of the chromatin. Mitotic figures are not readily identified. Atypical features are not appreciated.
