Washington University Experience | NEOPLASMS (MENINGIOMA) | Secretory | 4B1 Meningioma, secretory (Case 4) H&E 4
4B1,2 H&E stained tumor cells have ovoid nuclei that demonstrate prominent intranuclear inclusions, nuclear clearing, inconspicuous nucleoli, and moderate amounts of eosinophilic cytoplasm. Most of the tumor cells have indistinct cell borders and are arranged in whorls and fascicles. A few calcifications are noted. Of note, intracellular lumina with eosinophilic, granular secretions are very prominent. Mitotic figures are rare. No brain parenchyma is present to evaluate for brain invasion. Other atypical features, e.g. sheeting architecture, small cell change, macronucleoli, spontaneous necrosis, and hypercellularity, are not appreciated.
