Magnetic resonance imaging showed a T1 hypointense, T2 hyperintense, contrast-enhancing tumor involving the bone marrow of the petrous apex and extending to the right occipital condyle and the right cerebellar medullary cistern. The mass encases a portion of the right carotid artery and abutted the jugular foramen. The radiological differential diagnosis included chondrosarcoma, chordoma, and metastatic disease. Operative procedure: Middle fossa open biopsy.
