Washington University Experience | NEOPLASMS (MESENCHYMAL, NON-MENINGOTHELIAL) | Chordoma | 7A1 Chordoma (Case 7) H&E 1
7A1,2 H&E shows a chondromyxoid neoplasm with regionally variable histomorphologic features. Much of the tumor tissue features sheets, cords, small clusters, and lobules of variably-sized epithelioid cells, with generous amounts of coarsely-vacuolated pale eosinophilic cytoplasm, thin, well-demarcated cell borders, and small, mildly atypical oval nuclei; the intervening stroma is variably myxoid or hyalinized. In other areas, outright chondroid differentiation is apparent. Mitotic activity, though present, is not brisk. There is no evidence of anaplasia or high-grade sarcomatoid features.
