Washington University Experience | NEOPLASMS (MESENCHYMAL, NON-MENINGOTHELIAL) | Hemangioblastoma - Von Hippel Lindau | 12A0 Case 12 History
Case 12 History ---- The patient was a 30 year old woman with a diagnosis of von Hippel-Lindau complex since the age of 23 when multiple cerebellar lesions were discovered. She is S/P multiple ophthalmologic surgeries for retinal hemangioblastoma. When she was 25 she underwent craniotomy where several "brain tumors” (11) were removed. At the age of 29 she underwent left nephrectomy for a renal cell carcinoma, having presented with anemia, proteinuria and hematuria. She expired at home as the result of progressive oliguria. A sketchy neurologic exam is based on two admissions at an OSH. They note that she had an afferent pupillary defect in her left eye, a left hemiparesis, frequent falls and an unsteady gait. Both her mother and a sister have died from von Hippel-Lindau complex due to liver and/or brain tumors.
