Washington University Experience | NEOPLASMS (MESENCHYMAL, NON-MENINGOTHELIAL) | Hemangioblastoma - Von Hippel Lindau | 13 Metastases (Case 13) Renal (Von Hippel Lindau)
Case 13 History ---- The patient is a 42 year old woman with von Hippel-Lindau syndrome and multiple renal cell carcinomas of the right kidney. Operative procedure: Right nephrectomy. ---- The right kidney shows at least thirty-five renal cell carcinomas with the largest tumor measuring 2.5 cm. Some of the tumors directly abut the renal capsule but do not show capsular penetration. No vascular invasion is identified. The kidney additionally shows focal fibrosis, chronic inflammation, and glomerulosclerosis. The perinephric soft tissue shows focal fibrosis associated with a foreign body giant cell reaction, consistent with previous surgical sites.
