Washington University Experience | NEOPLASMS (MESENCHYMAL, NON-MENINGOTHELIAL) | Hemangioblastoma - Von Hippel Lindau | 19A1 Metastasis, renal (case 19) H&E 5
Case 19 History ---- The patient is a 68-year-old man with a history of renal cell carcinoma status post nephrectomy 8 years previously and with T8 right paraspinal metastasis status post resection. MRI reveals a 1 cm residual enhancing intradural lesion consistent with metastasis at level of T8. Operative procedure: Tumor resection. ---- 19A1-4 Sections of the paraspinal mass show a malignant neoplasm composed of tumor cells with irregular, hyperchromatic nuclei and predominantly clear cytoplasm in a vascular-rich background. The morphology is similar to the patient's prior resection specimen of the T8 paraspinal metastasis. These features are consistent with a metastatic carcinoma from the patient's known renal primary.
