Case 15 History ---- This patient was a 72-year-old female diagnosed with ALS in 2007 who has had chronic respiratory failure requiring mechanical ventilation for the last 4 years of her life. The patient has no significant family history of neurologic illness. ---- At autopsy the weight of the entire unfixed brain is 1120 g. ---- 15A1-3 The gross pathology of the brain shows a substantial degree of frontal and temporal atrophy also involving the precentral gyrus.
