16D ALS (Case 16) N12 Lumbosacral Biels WM
Bielschowsky silver stains show significantly decreased numbers of myelinated axons within the lateral corticospinal tracts of the cervical, thoracic, and lumbosacral regions of the spinal cord. ---- Not shown: Hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) stained sections from the frontal, parietal, and occipital lobes, as well as basal ganglia and thalamus, show a relatively well-maintained complement of neurons. The motor cortex shows no evidence of astrocytosis, microglial activation or neuronal dropout. ---- Neuro Final Diagnosis: Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)
