Case 17 History ---- The decedent was a 48-year-old man with a history of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) diagnosed in September 2015. His symptoms started in early 2015 when his family began to notice slurred speech, progressing to right hand weakness and progressive dysphagia. He had been on BiPAP for chronic respiratory failure. A G-tube was placed in January 2017 for dysphagia. The patient entered home hospice and passed away in April 2018. ---- At autopsy, the weight of the unfixed brain was 1430g. ---- 17A1 This whole mount of the spinal cord in this patient only shows pallor of the lateral CST at this magnification.
