This is a Bielschowsky silver stain for axons which shows a similar loss and change in contours of the lateral corticospinal tracts (CST); i.e., there is no preferential sparing of axons compared to myelin. This appearance is of tract degeneration following loss of neurons of origin in the motor cortex.
