Neuron loss and gliosis are seen in the dorsal motor nuclei of the hypoglossal nuclei, dorsal motor nuclei of the vagus nerve, and nuclei ambiguus. (H&E) In other sites (not shown) there is evidence for loss of motor nuclei in the V nerve, facial and oculomotor nuclei.
