Case 5 History ---- The 92yo male died of inanition with a slowly progressive diagnosis of severe dementia (CDR 3) following a 10-11 year course. At the time of his death, he was receiving comfort care (oxygen, morphine, atropine and Tylenol). He did not converse or participate in any nursing home activities. His medical record notes the primary clinical diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease with secondary parkinsonism. ---- The unfixed, fresh brain weighed 1430g. Histologic and immunohistologic studies showed Alzheimer disease neuropathologic change (NIA-AA Intermediate likelihood to explain his dementia: A2, B3, C2). Argyrophilic grain disease (stage 1) was also established. Small and large vessel cerebrovascular disease were consistent with subcortical arteriosclerotic leukoencephalopathy
