9A0 Case 9 History
Case 9 History ---- The patient was a 91yo male at his death from inanition as the result of severe Alzheimer disease. He had an 11-year history of slowly progressive cognitive decline resulting in severe loss in all cognitive abilities which eventually lead to him being mute, bedridden and requiring total care. At the end of his life he was receiving oxygen by nasal cannula and he was not eating or drinking food/fluids. The clinical diagnosis during life was symptomatic Alzheimer disease. ---- At autopsy the weight of the fresh unfixed brain was 1470g. Workup revealed Alzheimer Disease Neuropathology Change using the NIA-AA scheme (A3B3C3) and severe diffuse Lewy body disease, with the distribution of Lewy bodies consistent with a neocortical stage of DLB, which is the correlate of dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB)
