3D3 Argyrophilic Grain Dementia (Case 3) L23 BAP 40X
There are no beta-amyloid plaques or amyloid angiopathy in either hippocampus or amygdala. (PHF IHC) ---- Not shown: Multiple sections of frontal, parietal, and temporal neocortices show marked neuronal loss and astrocytosis, with patchy vacuolation of layer 2. No neuritic plaques or neurofibrillary tangles were identified on Bielschowsky stains. There are no Pick bodies, Pick cells, or cortical Lewy bodies found on H&E or Bielschowsky stains. There is marked neuronal loss and gliosis of the entorhinal cortex and amygdala, with lesser involvement of the hippocampus. Sections of the midbrain show slightly reduced numbers of pigmented neurons of the substantia nigra without any Lewy bodies. The locus ceruleus is unremarkable.
