Alpha-synuclein immunohistochemistry (IHC) reveals Lewy bodies and neurites in both the amygdala and entorhinal cortex. A few TDP-43-immunoreactive NCIs are seen in both the entorhinal cortex and amygdala. ---- Not shown: There is modest neuronal loss and astrocytosis in the CA1 subfield of the hippocampus and greater loss in the parahippocampal gyrus. There are also Hirano bodies and tau-positive pre-tangles in the CA1 and CA4 subfields. In the parahippocampal gyrus, there are numerous beta-amyloid plaques, a few neuritic plaques, and more frequent tau-immunoreactive tangles. No Pick bodies are present and no TDP-43-immunoreactive NCIs are identified in rather the hippocampus or parahippocampal gyrus. The substantia nigra is generally well populated with some extracellular pigment, indicating neuron loss, and gliosis. A few Lewy bodies and neurites are identified with anti-synuclein antibodies in the substantia nigra.
