1C3,4 Although inclusions in cortical neurons in CBD are often in granular pretangles stages, in this image they are increased as early tangles. Bielschowsky silver stains fail to show classical senile plaques and only occasional cells contained flame shaped neurofibrillary tangles which would be expected in larger numbers in Alzheimer disease. However, the silver stains demonstrate a plethora of small collections of delicate, sometimes feathery, argyrophilic processes. They have neither the composition of classical senile plaques, either neuritic or diffuse, nor that of amyloid deposits. (Bielschowsky)
