3F1,2 Residual neurons in the substantia nigra show a variety of granular inclusions and tangles. The substantia nigra is depopulated in pigmented neurons, contains free and macrophage engulfed pigment, and is accompanied by numerous astrocytes. There are no Lewy bodies. (PHF1 IHC)
