Washington University Experience | NEURODEGENERATION | Globular Glial Tauopathy (GGT) | 1G6 GGT (Case 1) L17 H&E 100X 3
Additional GGI in the basal ganglia showing variability in frequency and substructure. ---- Not shown: Tau IHC also reveals rare neurofibrillary tangles (NFT) and pre-tangles (diffusely immunoreactive neurons). No pTDP-43-immunoreactive neuronal cytoplasmic inclusions (NCIs) are found. No alpha-synuclein-positive inclusions (Lewy bodies and Lewy neurites), and no vascular beta-amyloid deposits are identified. A few diffuse beta-amyloid plaques and some cored plaques are identified in the temporal lobe but no neuritic plaques. These findings do not meet criteria for any other neurodegenerative disease. There is Alzheimer Disease Neuropathologic Change but it is unlikely to explain this patient’s dementia by NIA-AA grading criteria: A1, B1, C0.
