Scattered TDP-43 inclusions and neuritic threads are seen in the frontal neocortex. ---- Not shown: In the neocortex neuronal loss and gliosis are moderate. Tau immunohistochemistry does not reveal any diffusely tau immunoreactive neurons (interpreted as indicating a pre-tangle stage). Sparse superficial pTDP-43-immunoreactive neuronal cytoplasmic inclusions (NCIs), neuronal intranuclear inclusions (NIIs), glial cytoplasmic inclusions (GCIs), and some dystrophic neurites (DNs) are seen in the frontal and temporal lobes with fewer in the occipital lobe.
