At autopsy the brain weighed 1050 g fresh and shows moderate to severe diffuse cortical atrophy which is most severe in the frontal lobes. Coronal sections show severe cortical atrophy and markedly atrophic hippocampi. Not shown: The substantia nigra and locus ceruleus are well pigmented.
