Coronal sections of the left hemisphere reveal a normal cortical ribbon and underlying white matter. There is marked atrophy and tan-orange discoloration of the caudate and to a slightly lesser degree, the putamen. The globus pallidus also appears somewhat atrophic. The ventricular system is dilated, particularly the lateral ventricles.
