Coronal sections of the cerebral hemispheres reveal a normal cortical ribbon and underlying white matter. The ventricular system is enlarged with a blunting of the angles extending into the occipital horns bilaterally and is symmetric. There is atrophy and flattening of the caudate nucleus bilaterally and the putamen appears smaller than usual.
