Immunostains with 1C2, an antibody directed against polyglutamine repeats, show presence of granular intranuclear and intracytoplasmic inclusions within the remaining neurons. There is significant increase in immunohistochemical background but the patchy inclusions are compellingly stained. (1C2 IHC)
