6A2,3 Comparison of coronally sectioned half-brains control (left) and HD brain (right) sections through one cerebral hemisphere show cortical atrophy involving chiefly the frontal and parietal lobes. The deep gray nuclei are remarkable for the shrinkage and slight discoloration of the head of the caudate nucleus. Rather than bulging in a convex appearance, it has become flattened against the lateral aspect of the lateral ventricle. The ventricle itself is significantly blunted and dilated.
