2B1,2 All regions of the cerebral cortex examined showed large numbers of large and small eosinophilic globular spheroids, often concentrated in a perineuronal distribution (arrowheads, 2B2). Neurons were overall decreased in density within the cortex, however, patchy areas of prominent neuron loss were accompanied by astrocytosis. (H&E)
