Neuro Final Diagnosis: Idiopathic (Lewy body) Parkinson's disease; Necrosis, globus pallidus, left (Hx pallidotomy, 1996) ---- Not shown: Silver staining shows a few neurofibrillary tangles and rare neuritic plaques in the entorhinal cortex and frontal cortex, however, the number is very low and a diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease is not warranted. Microscopic examination shows marked neuronal loss, gliosis and Lewy bodies in the substantia nigra and locus ceruleus.
