11A1 PD, DLBD, AD (Case 11)
At autopsy the weight of the unfixed brain is 990g. The sulcal-gyral pattern shows marked generalized atrophy, particularly in the frontal and temporal lobes. Coronal sections of the cerebral hemispheres reveal marked cortical atrophy, primarily in the frontal and temporal lobes and the hippocampal formation bilaterally. The ventricular system shows marked hydrocephalus ex vacuo and is lined by smooth, glistening ependyma. Transverse sections of the brainstem show the substantia nigra and locus ceruleus are markedly depigmented, the former predominantly in the lateral aspect.
