Neuro Microscopic Description: Multiple sections of frontal, parietal, temporal and occipital neocortices show mild to moderate neuronal loss and gliosis with superficial spongiosis. Frequent neuritic and diffuse plaques and rare neurofibrillary tangles are seen in Bielschowsky stained sections of neocortex. Numerous tangles and plaques are also observed in Bielschowsky stained sections of hippocampus. Scattered Lewy bodies are found in multiple sections of neocortex, hippocampus, and nucleus basalis. Sections of the midbrain demonstrate minimal neuronal loss and gliosis in the substantia nigra and locus ceruleus. Both Lewy bodies and "Colloid bodies" are seen at both sites. ---- Neuro Final Diagnoses: Alzheimer's disease; Cortical (diffuse) Lewy body disease
