5B Case 5 Denouement
Sections of the left and right hippocampus show changes diagnostic of Alzheimer's disease with numerous neurofibrillary plaques present throughout, demonstrated both in H&E and silver stains. Numerous pyramidal cells in CA 1, subicular complex and entorhinal cortex contain neurofibrillary tangles. Numerous neuritic plaques are also seen in the temporal lobe by silver staining. It is unclear how extensive the ADNC lesions are in this brain with only temporal lobe structures described. ---- Final Neuropathologic Diagnoses: Parkinson Disease; Alzheimer Disease
