6B Case 6 Denouement
Multiple sections of the frontal, parietal, temporal and occipital cortices show superficial vacuolation in the grey matter. Frequent neurofibrillary tangles and senile plaques are demonstrated in H&E and Bielschowsky stained material. Frequent cortical Lewy bodies are also identified in the cortex, more prominent in the neurons in the deeper layers of the temporal lobe and the cingulate gyrus. The sections of the midbrain and the pons show marked neuron loss and gliosis of the substantia nigra and the nuclei of the locus ceruleus with some of the remaining pigmented neurons containing Lewy bodies. Neuro Final Diagnosis: Alzheimer's disease; Diffuse Lewy body disease
