Sections of the left and right hippocampus show changes diagnostic of Alzheimer's disease. Numerous senile plaques and scattered Hirano bodies present throughout the pyramidal cell layer, demonstrated both in H&E and silver stains. Many pyramidal cells show granulovacuolar degeneration and neurofibrillary tangles. Numerous senile plaques and neurofibrillary tangles are also present in the entorhinal cortex and frontal lobe by silver staining. Sections of the midbrain show nearly total loss of pigmented neurons, associated with gliosis and Lewy bodies. ---- Final Neuropathologic Diagnoses: Parkinson's disease; Alzheimer's disease
