The cingulate gyrus includes numerous Lewy bodies and sparse Lewy neurites. (A-SYN IHC) ---- Final Neuropathologic Diagnoses: Diffuse Lewy body disease (Parkinson disease with dementia; brainstem, limbic and neocortical); Alzheimer's disease neuropathologic change (Low: A3, B1, C1) ---- This case displays alpha-synuclein-positive inclusions in the form of Lewy bodies and Lewy neurites in brainstem, limbic and neocortical areas. When AD and DLBD are seen in one patient, as here, there is a ‘high probability’ that the Lewy body pathology contributed to the dementia (McKeith et al, PMID: 16237129).
