The basal ganglia show mild patchy neuron loss and astrocytosis in its most rostral part with more substantial pathology in the putamen, particularly its more caudal aspect, in which site it is accompanied by perivascular dark pigment but not substantial numbers of axonal spheroids. (H&E)
