The pons appears of normal size, but the locus coeruleus has loss of neurons, extracellular pigment, and gliosis. There is variable neuronal loss and gliosis in the basis pontis. In this image the pons is largely well maintained with numerous neurons and scattered GCI (arrow). (H&E)
