1D3,4 The pons appears small and there is loss of neurons and gliosis in the locus coeruleus, tegmentum and basis pontis. The tegmentum and pontine nuclei show severe and dramatic alpha-synuclein pathology. There are numerous GCIs, some neuronal cytoplasmic inclusions (NCIs), numerous neurites and scattered neuronal intranuclear inclusions (NII) throughout the pontine nuclei.
