4I2 MSA (Case 4) HC dentate pSYN
Significant neuronal inclusions are seen in the dentate gyrus of the hippocampus. (pSYN IHC) No TDP-43 immunoreactivity is seen. ---- Not shown: There is severe loss of neurons, gliosis and extracellular pigment in the substantia nigra. Numerous GCIs are present in the substantia nigra, red nucleus, crus cerebri and elsewhere in the midbrain. There is evidence of neuronal loss in the medulla. No Lewy bodies or Lewy neurites are present. However, many GCIs are seen in the medulla. The spinal cord was not available. ---- Neuro Final Diagnosis: Multiple system atrophy (MSA, striatonigral degeneration-type, or parkinsonism-type; MSA-P).
