7F1,2 Sections of the midbrain show marked neuronal loss and gliosis in the substantia nigra. There are no Lewy bodies. The periaqueductal gray and cerebral peduncles are unremarkable. An immunohistochemical stain for phosphorylated α-synuclein shows numerous oligodendrocytes and astrocytes with cytoplasmic synuclein positivity. (H&E)
