At autopsy the weight of the unfixed brain was 1260g. The sulcal/gyral pattern showed mild atrophy. Coronal sections of the cerebral hemisphere showed an unremarkable cortical ribbon, and underlying white matter. ---- There was a 2x0.8x0.4cm cystic area in the right putamen with yellow-brown discoloration, likely the result of prior hemorrhage, possibly underlying his transient right hemiparesis. Microscopic examination was consistent with a remote hemorrhage
