Washington University Experience | NEURODEGENERATION | Pick Disease | 1H Case 1 Denouement
Not shown: No pTDP-43-immunoreactive neuronal cytoplasmic inclusions (NCIs) are present. Likewise, no Papp-Lantos bodies of MSA are seen. ---- Final Neuropathologic Diagnoses: Pick disease; Alzheimer's disease neuropathologic change (Low; A1, B0, C0) ---- Neuro Diagnosis Comment: These findings support the diagnosis of the frontotemporal lobar degeneration known as Pick disease, a relatively uncommon cause of frontotemporal dementia. In addition, there is evidence of very mild Alzheimer’s disease neuropathologic change (ADNC) and small vessel disease. These findings do not support a neuropathological diagnosis of AD by any criteria. In the most recent National Institute on Aging-Alzheimer's Association (NIA-AA) criteria, this case is classified as: ADNC Low: A1, B0, C0, where A = beta-amyloid stage; B = neurofibrillary tangle stage and C = neuritic plaque stage).
