Residual pyramidal neurons in Ammon’s horn have prominent Pick bodies. (PHF1 IHC) ---- Not shown: Significant neuron loss, gliosis, and Pick body formation is also observed in sections of caudate, amygdala, and nucleus basalis. Amyloid plaques and Alzheimer's type neurofibrillary tangles are not readily identifiable. The substantia nigra is well-populated and Lewy bodies are not seen on H&E stained sections.
