Washington University Experience | NEURODEGENERATION | Polyglucosan Body Disease (PGBD) | 5B6 Hemorrhage APBDz (Case 5) H&E 3 copy
The final course of the patient involved hypoxic ischemic insults producing the curious phenomenon of PMNs gathering around a PB in an infarct. (H&E) ---- Comment: The meaning of the diffuse increase in corpora amylacea throughout the brain is unestablished. The rare entity Adult Polyglucosan Body Disease (APBD) typically presents with upper and lower motoneuron dysfunction, sensory loss, neurogenic bladder and dementia, which is not part of this patient's presentation. Increased numbers of polyglucosan bodies occur as a function of age, however, this patient is 56 years old.
