Coronal sections through the bilateral hemispheres shows mild cortical atrophy predominantly involving the temporal, parietal and temporal lobes. The angle of the left ventricle is blunted and the inferior horn of the lateral ventricle is mildly expanded, but the hippocampus is not obviously atrophic.
