1A2,3 Higher magnification image of adult human Clarke’s column neurons show Nissl substance marginated around the cytoplasmic periphery of the cell body. Although Clarke’s column neurons have a superficial resemblance to central chromatolysis, the neuronal cell body response to axonal crush injury, they typically have a more granular appearance in contrast to the glassy cytoplasm of central chromatolysis.
